#76 The Biltmore
The Biltmore
As with all the the richy-rich houses I've visited in Newport, The Hudson Valley, etc. this was about middle of the road. It's a Vanderbilt property and the Vanderbilt that built it basically bankrupted himself in the process. That said, the hotel on the property is still owned and operated by his descendants. It is quite a bit less impressive than, say - The Breakers, but quite a bit more impressive than Kykuit.
The slanty scroll work below the slanted windows are actually stairs. There are little doors on the interior that allow access for cleaning and repair.
a close-up.
The little windows house an elevator.
Gargoyle!
Looking out from the veranda.
V for Vanderbilt
Relaxation, part I
I was fascinated by these white flowers. The really do look like they have glitter sprinkled on them.
